Joy Maina is a student at Tufts University studying American Studies and Education. Before joining California Policy Solutions, Joy worked with non-profit organizations as an advocate, journalist, and development consultant. Before Tufts, Joy was the president of their high school BSU. As president, they worked with members of the district to offer training in restorative justice to prevent punitive measures and worked as a conflict resolution mediator. Joy has worked with organizations in the greater Sacramento community to form trauma informed practices with circle keepers, BLM Sacramento, non-profit executives, and even professors that were doing research on how to get Ethnic studies to be a curriculum requirement in California. In their free time, they appreciate the art of crocheting, making time for physical movement, or finding themselves lost in a good book.
